What is CBG?

Cannabigerol or CBG is a phytocannabinoid found in substantial concentrations in certain strains of Cannabis Sativa L. and was first isolated in the 1960s. CBG has been demonstrated to have a very low binding affinity at CB1 and CB2 receptors. This indicates that the mechanism of action is significantly different from both CBD and THC. CBG has been demonstrated to have significant pharmacological activity at TRP ion gated channels including, TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPV3, TRPV4, TRPA1, and TRPM8.

Additionally, CBG has been shown to have significant antimicrobial properties similar to other cannabinoids CBD and THC. Cannabigerol is also being studied for its potential anti-inflammatory properties as well as its potential to be neuroprotective. CBG is thought to act synergistically with other cannabinoids and is thought to be a key player in the entourage effect.
