What is CBC?

Cannabichromene or CBC is a minor cannabinoid that typically occurs at concentrations between 0.2-0.3% by dry weight in Cannabis Sativa L. It was first isolated from cannabis in the 1960s and naturally demonstrates scalemic characteristics. While it was initially thought to be a crystalline solid, it has been shown that CBC in its purest form is actually a viscous oil.

While CBC does demonstrate a moderate level of binding affinity for both CB1 and CB2 receptors, it has a significantly weaker binding affinity when compared to CBD or THC. CBC has been shown to be a non-covalent modulator of the TRPA-1 receptor, indicating that it plays a substantial role in the uptake and enzymatic breakdown of endogenous cannabinoids. Additionally, in high concentrations, CBC has been demonstrated to have minor analgesic properties. Finally, Cannabichromene is thought to have strong anti-microbial activities similar to CBD and CBG.

CBC demonstrates extremely interesting pharmacological properties that are distinct from other cannabinoids. While there is still much research that needs to be done to gain a full understanding of the physiological effects of Cannabichromene, the current understanding implies that this cannabinoid may have drastically different applications than other known cannabinoids.
